Family Friendly Wineries and Breweries along The South West Edge

From the Swan Valley and Geographe Bay to Margaret River and the Great Southern; The South West Edge is packed with incredible wineries and cellar doors.

We know that parents travelling with children want to enjoy these places as much as solo travellers, so we thought we’d round up our favourite family-friendly wineries and breweries along The Edge. The South West Edge is full of places that will appeal to everyone in the family and ensure parents can relax and indulge in some of the world-class food and drink on offer.

Pinky’s Beach Club, Rottnest Island

We know this isn’t a winery or a brewery, but we couldn’t compile a list of our favourite spots without including Pinky’s. Located within Discovery Rottnest Island sits Pinky’s Beach Club, where you will enjoy sensational views of the beach and Bathurst Lighthouse. Don’t worry if you aren’t staying in one of the glamping tents, the beach club is open to the public, with an amazing cocktail list and locally inspired dishes. The large grass area is perfect for the kids to run around, with plenty of lawn games around to be played. There is access to the beach where they can build sandcastles and dip their feet in the ocean.

Little Creatures, Fremantle

A favourite among Freo locals and travellers alike is Little Creatures. Settle into the rear courtyard, which has views over the Fishing Boat Harbour and while away a lazy afternoon. The kids will be kept entertained in the huge sandpit and toys, plus the delicious pizzas on the menu, meaning you can sit back, relax, and enjoy a couple of craft beers.

Swings and Roundabouts, Yallingup

A family-friendly winery list wouldn’t be complete without the ever-popular Swings and Roundabouts. Boasting a casual vibe, this is a fantastic spot to relax and soak up those gorgeous surroundings. The kids (and you) will love the woodfired pizzas and there’s plenty of space for little ones to explore.

The South West Edge is full of places that will appeal to everyone in the family and ensure parents can relax and enjoy some of the world-class food and drink on offer.

Aravina Estate, Yallingup

One of the most popular wedding venues of the South West is Aravina Estate. Not only is it extremely beautiful with delicious wines, it’s also a great spot to stop in with the family. There’s a playground for the kids to enjoy and even a mini motor museum for the rev heads to explore!

Cheeky Monkey Brewery, Wilyabrup

You can’t go wrong with a massive, enclosed playground, a sandpit, climbing frames, and a high rope water crossing! Enjoy the delicious brews from Cheeky Monkey Brewery and Cidery while you sit back and relax (while the kids burn some energy!) Trust us when we say it’s hard to make a decision on what to order off the amazing menu, but they’ve made it easy for the kids with their meals coming with a drink and an activity pack.

Colonial Brewing Co, Bramley

When we say this brewery is great for kids, we mean the big kids too! A short drive from Margaret River and nestled among vineyards and lush green pastures is Colonial Brewing Co. With one of the biggest playgrounds in the region, the kids will be in heaven whilst you enjoy a tasting paddle of delicious beers and indulge in fantastic menu. Keep the bigger kids (and of course, husbands) entertained at the mini driving range, where guests can hit golf balls into the lake to their hearts content.

Xanadu Winery, Margaret River

Xanadu is a must-stop winery when you’re looking for somewhere that is both kid friendly and very picturesque. Enjoy your wine tastings in the relaxed vibes of the cellar door and follow it with garden games as the kids run wild on the grassed area. You’re sure to feel right at home here no matter how long you stay!

Brewhouse, Margaret River

While staying in town you might be looking for somewhere you can walk to so no one needs to be designated driver. If so, Brewhouse is the perfect spot for you and the family. The outdoor seating and grassy areas are the perfect spot to perch up, as you’ll have the kids in sight running amuck at the nearby playground. We’re going to say now, the kids won’t want to leave this one!

Boston Brewing Co, Denmark

A trip through the Great Southern region isn’t complete without a stop at Boston Brewing. Another place where it’s easy to keep your eyes on the kids – with picnic tables and grassy areas right next to the playground, you can expect to stay here for the better part of an afternoon. With several brews on tap including a delicious Raspberry flavoured Gose, and a seriously impressive menu, you’re really going to like this place!

Lucky Bay Brewing, Esperance

Lucky Bay Brewing recently moved into new, bigger premises and it’s the perfect spot to indulge in some locally made craft beer. There’s heaps of open space for kids to run around (it’s dog friendly too so the fur babies can also come along) and there are delicious wood fired pizzas on offer to keep the whole family happy. On the weekend they often have live music, keeping the laid back vibe buzzy and fun for everyone.

Oakover Grounds, Swan Valley

Oakover Grounds is one of the prettiest spots in the Swan Valley. The casual restaurant overlooks a lake, rolling lawns and vineyards, which are sure to keep you in holiday mode! The perfect spot to stop for a family lunch with amazing food and wine, and plenty to do, making it easy to hang around for the arvo! Venture out onto the lake on the peddle boats, play giant garden games on the grass, and even try your luck fishing!

Mandoon Estate, Swan Valley

Set in gorgeous vineyards and located right on the Swan River, Mandoon is the winery for food loving families. Boasting a ‘down south’ vibe, you’ll feel like your trip has not yet ended with the modern yet laid back feel of the winery. ‘The Llawn’ is a casual, family-friendly alfresco area with picnic tables, a fully enclosed playground and live music on the weekends. The perfect way to round out your South West Edge road trip!
